Book Coaching & Editorial Services

Everyone has a story to tell.
I’ll help you tell it in a book you’re proud of.

After writing and publishing two of my own books (and counting!) and working with business owners on buttoning up theirs for publishing, I'm intimately familiar with what it takes to go from idea to holding your book in your hands.
Book Coaching
When you're not sure where to start with writing your book, or you've started but feel stuck, having a book writing coach by your side can make all the difference. With a guide, you'll have regular accountability, structure, and advice at every step.
When you're in the process of writing and editing your book, you'll want to keep your momentum going. This is where most potential authors stall out. They bump into an obstacle or feel fuzzy on where to go next, so they end up letting their book drafts collect dust. As your coach, we won't let that happen!
Book coaching is for you if:
You have an idea for your book and don't know where to start
You have a rough outline and want support to make sure you're on the right track
You've started writing and feel stuck
You don’t know what else to include and you feel like you’re just putting words on a page without a strategy
You're done writing your draft and need support with staying motivated to finish edits, publish, and market your book
Book coaching includes:
Support with outlining
Suggestions for a consistent writing schedule
Advice on how to start writing from your outline
Endless motivation
Busting through creative blocks
Access to everything inside The Intuitive Writing School community — live writing sessions, workshops, and community
Step-by-step guidance on how to keep making progress each week — you'll always know exactly what to do next
Developmental edits on your writing each week of up to 10,000 words to help improve your writing. I have a gift for sensing what might be left unsaid in the pages of your book. Some call this "reading between the lines." I’m looking for:
Appropriate tone for your target reader
Structure and flow of sentences, chapters, and sections
Consistency of language and rhythm
Language variety
Clarity, engagement, and readability
Visual flow
Weekly high fives and celebrations from your biggest cheerleader – me
How book coaching works:
Step 1: We'll meet for 90 minutes to discuss your book project, goals, and time frame. During this first call, we can outline your book and set your writing schedule and next steps.
Step 2: You write! I'll be available to you on Voxer if you get stuck at any point.
Step 3: We'll meet for 30 minutes 2-3 times each month to review your progress, discuss feedback, set your goals for the coming week, and support your mindset.
Step 4: Each week, you'll share your writing with me, and I'll review for tone, flow, consistency, and grammar stuff, too.
Time frame: Minimum 3 months with monthly extensions as needed after that.
Investment: $2000/month.
Most clients finish their drafts within one to three months and have plans for revisions and marketing. Occasionally, some clients need more than three months to finish their drafts.

“I was hesitant to work with Jacq because I've tried working with many writing coaches, and it's not always a fit. And now, I'm looking forward to starting a fresh new draft of my book with a new angle that she helped me find. It's made all the difference in my attitude and enthusiasm about doing it while taking out the paralyzing overwhelm.
I enjoyed the efficiency, quick reviews, and clear step-by-step instructions to keep a distracted person from straying off course. I've regained the sense that — I can do this. Before, I wasn't so sure...
If you're stuck finding your focus, audience, and your message, or just need to hone it — Jacq WILL get you over the hump. Working with Jacq doesn't feel like working; she makes writing a book feel like a solvable puzzle, showing you the pieces are already there. That's a true gift!”

Yes. This stage is called copy editing and is completed once your manuscript is done. The plus side of working with me as your coach and developmental editor as you write is that your draft will be in good shape and have a great foundation for copy edits. Meaning your copy editor will need less time (and a lower investment). I have a handful of copy editors I trust, and will facilitate your copy edits if you like.

Nonfiction and memoir. That means no fiction, romance or anything else. There are certain topics that if they're misaligned with my values, then I might recommend you work with another editor or coach.
